ABSTRACT
The author of this article attempts to describe a man enslaved by a political system on the basis of Night Patrol by Mikhail Kuraev. The author describes Polubolotov’s professional duties and the people he met in his nearly 40-year-long career as an agent of NKVD. It is clearly emphasised that the main character’s attitude towards his duties and prisoners is a reflection of his limitless belief in the communist propaganda, which makes him a weak-willed and enslaved executor of the orders of other people. The author points out that the form of monologue chosen by the writer gives the story the quality of an intimate confession
