Abstract: The study aimed to assess the level of knowledge and usage of potentially
stigmatizing anatomical terms among medical students. Material and methods: The pilot study was conducted in May 2025 using an anonymous
questionnaire among 72 medical students. The data were analyzed using Excel and PAST. Results: The analysis revealed that a significant proportion of respondents used nonrecommended
terminology or were familiar only with negatively connoted terms. No
statistically significant differences were found in terminology usage between loweryear
and upper-year students. Awareness that features such as a single palmar crease or
epicanthal fold may also occur in individuals with a normal karyotype was limited. Conclusions: The findings indicate the need to incorporate topics related to language
awareness and inclusive medical terminology into medical education. It seems essential
to review teaching materials and increase academic staff engagement in promoting neutral
language. The study reveals a gap in medical education concerning the description of
anatomical features.
