The aim of the article is to present the cultural life in the Łukowski District in the interwar period. The article has been written on the basis of archival sources and studies. In the interwar period the Łukowski District was within the boundaries of the Lubelskie Province. The culture in Łuków developed through social organizations and aficionados for whom the cultural life was immensely important. It can be observed that between different organizations and the Jews and the Christians there existed a rivalry which caused the development of various initiatives – lectures, performances, celebrations and similar ventures. The cultural life was rich. Despite the activity of different cultural and educational institutions in the District, the level of culture of the residents in that area left a lot to be desired. The curiosity of the District’s residents was not awaken yet, they did not feel the need for cultural entertainment.
